Saying: Laughing All The Way to the Bank?
I’ve always wondered what they meant by the saying, “Laughing all the way to the bank”.
Personally, I’ve never found myself laughing all the way to the bank. I can only think of times when I dreaded going to the bank.
In my earlier years I was usually sick to my stomach on my way to the bank. Paying bills that I wasn’t quite sure I had the money to pay.
Applying for a loan in shame to consolidate my bad debts, and praying the loan officer would maybe take pity on me and approve my loan. Not even a chuckle – not even a titter.
As a matter of fact, I can’t remember even grinning all that much.
I would like to see someone just burst out into a full belly laugh while they are standing in the cue. Maybe gripping both velvet row dividers for support as they buckle to their knees in the throes of a booming laugh. Even better would be for a customer to get down on a the ground laughing uncontrollably.
But no – generally I see people lined up at the bank with long faces, and sad expressions saying, “Please get me out of here – I want go home and I am in NO mood for laughing.
